CEO Message from Elaine Goldstine November 2016

posted Nov 16 2016

Dear Community Members,

Now that all of the holidays have passed, we can now focus our attention on all of the incredible things going on at the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg.

I am excited to share with you that the 2016 Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign just hit the $4 million mark this week! With almost $1.8 million still outstanding, we hope you can take the time to make your donation todayDonate online now or call 204.477.7428. All donations made before December 31 ensure a 2016 charitable tax receipt. Thank you to all of our fabulous volunteers and generous donors for getting us this far; let's keep the momentum going!

Join the Conversation! The Community Planning Committee has been talking to individuals and small groups for several months as they gather perspectives on the needs of the Jewish community into the future. The opportunities to join a group continue through November and beyond. More than 230 people have joined the conversation so far!

Are you interested but too busy to come to a focus group? Click here to fill out a form online, arrange a one on one interview, or email your views. Drop by the campus in the month of November and write on the Conversation poster board in the front hall.

About 200 people attended this year’s Kristallnacht commemoration entitled “The Degenerate Composers” on November 9, 2016. The program featured the talented musical duo of Sarah Jo Kirsch, soprano, and Madeline Hildebrand, pianist, performing works of the composers banned during the Third Reich. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the musical program and commemoration service.

We are thrilled that our new Hillel Director/Outreach Consultant, Arielle Branitsky, has jumped right in and began consulting with Hillel stakeholders to formulate a strategy for Hillel Winnipeg, the foundation for Jewish campus life, that will lead to success now and in the future. Arielle is also in the midst of organizing public space events for Chanukah as well as a new initiative, Shabbat in my Neighbourhood, as part of PJ Library.

We hope to see you at one (or many!) of our Federation events this month:

Wishing you a peaceful Shabbat,
